![]() ![]() The integrated Qualcomm Adreno 642 offers a 50% higher performance compared to the old Adreno 620 in the predecessor. The multi-thread performance is similar to the old Snapdragon 865+ in the Galaxy Z Fold2, but using a single core, the 780G is trailing behind. In our benchmarks, the 780G is able to reach the performance of the old high end chip Kirin 990. Thanks to the new Cortex-A78 cores, the CPU performance increases by up to 40% compared to the old Snapdragon 768G according to Qualcomm. Depending on the workload only single clusters or all cores can run at different clock speeds. Three additional A78 based performance cores with up to 2.2 GHz and a power efficiency cluster with four small ARM Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.9 GHz. A fast prime core for single thread performance based on the ARM Cortex-A78 architecture with up to 2.4 GHz. It integrates eight cores (octa-core) divided into three clusters. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G (SM7350-AB Mobile Platform) is a fast mid-range ARM-based SoC largely found on Android tablets and smartphones. Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G ► remove from comparison The Snapdragon 778G Plus is manufactured in the modern 6 nm process at TSMC (vs the 5LPE of the 780G). ![]() Qualcomm offers updates for the graphics driver. The G specifies an optimized SoC for gaming and e.g. The satellite system supports all major standards like Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS and GPS. The Spectra 570 ISP (image signal processor) supports up to three cameras. The integrated 6th gen AI engine called Hexagon 770 offers a 2x improvement and up to 12 TOPS of performance. This is partly thanks to the fast memory controller with LPDDR5-3200 support. The integrated Qualcomm Adreno 642L offers a 40% higher performance compared to the old Adreno 620 in the predecessor. The FastConnect 6900 Wi-Fi modem supports the current Wi-Fi 6e standard with 6GHz. The integrated X53 5G modem supports up to 3.3 Gbps with sub 6Ghz. In our benchmarks, the 778G+ is able to reach the performance of the old high end chip Kirin 990. Compared to the older non-plus variant, the 778G+ offers 100 MHz higher clocked CPU cores. A fast performance cluster with four cores based on the ARM Cortex-A78 architecture with up to 2.5 GHz and a power efficiency cluster with four small ARM Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.9 GHz. It integrates eight cores (octa-core) divided into two clusters. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G (SDM778G Plus 5G Mobile Platform) is a fast mid-range ARM-based SoC largely found on Android tablets and smartphones. ![]() With chips like the Helio G90 and Snapdragon 855 Plus, they will finally have more to work with than improved cooling and gaming modes.Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G ► remove from comparison ![]() Gaming phones seem to be rising in popularity, but a common criticism against them is that they use the same chipsets as non-gaming flagships. Still, we may see a more powerful GPU – ARM has the Mali-G76 and G77 graphics cores, Imagination has a new line of Furian flagship GPUs (the GM9446 is a mid-range part from the Rogue family). Will the G90 use the same GPU? MediaTek can improve the gaming experience with a gaming mode like the Kirin chips have. As for the GPU, it’s an Imagination PowerVR GM9446 (970MHz), which promises a 15% improvement over the Mali-G72 MP3 used in the Helio P70. We can speculate that the G90 is based on the Helio P90, which has a CPU with two Cortex-A75 cores (2.2GHz) and six A55 cores (2.0GHz). The teaser poster that announced its existence doesn’t give away much, but the full reveal is coming soon. The Helio G90 will be the first dedicated gaming chip from MediaTek. ![]()
